Overview

The Job Corps Fire Management Advanced Training program requires training in the following subject areas:

Program Expectations

Students entering the Fire Management Advanced Training program will be expected to participate in the following professional practices:

• Arrive on time and be ready to begin work immediately.
• Dress for the training area with uniform worn properly.
• Work the entire time while on the job.
• Follow safety guidelines.
• Follow rules and instructions of the training area and Job Corps.
• Demonstrate respect for self, tools, and equipment.
• Exercise good customer relations skills.

Program Entry Requirements

Before entering the Fire Management Advanced Training program, students must:

• Have completed a Job Corps basic career technical training program.
• Have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
• Have a positive behavior record with no major incidents in the past 90 days.
• Have a positive attendance and progress record.
• Have health clearance from the Job Corps center where they received basic training.
• Meet strenuous physical requirements.
• Meet academic (math and reading) requirements.
• Pass an entrance exam.
• Complete a successful phone or in-person interview.

• Operating and maintaining necessary equipment and tools
• Maintaining campgrounds, picnics, and trail areas
• Tree health, aesthetics, and hazard reduction
• Federal and state regulations pertaining to use and occupancy of forest lands

Program Entry Requirements

Before entering the Forestry Advanced Training program, students must:

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Have successfully completed a basic Job Corps career technical training program.
• Have a high school diploma or the equivalent. (GED score must be above 2400.)
• Have a strong interest in a career with the Forest Service in the area of natural resource management.
• Be physically fit and willing to work in rough-terrain field conditions.
• Possess or be qualified to obtain a USDA Forest Service driver’s license.
• Have a positive behavior record with no major incidents in the past 90 days.
• Have a positive attendance and progress record.
• Have health clearance from the Job Corps center where they received basic training.
• Meet academic (math and reading) requirements.
• Pass an entrance exam.
• Complete a successful phone or in-person interview.
